Yes, the coronavirus is dominating the news, but there still are some other things happening in this world right now – especially in the equestrian world. Moritz Stummer and his family, for instance, are facing a really big change right now: They have purchased a big facility close to Vienna in Austria. Moritz is a multiple European and Austrian Champion and has told us about this big change.
Attending a clinic, driving to your trainer’s facility for some lessons or letting the trainer come to your barn – all of this is not possible at the moment given the current corona situation. But, every crisis has its positive sides, one of them being people starting to get creative: from virtual horse shows to online riding lessons, the internet has a lot to offer these days. We have talked to three trainers who offer online riding lessons.
Jenny Brandes did something not many people achieve: She has been named the APHA European Champion in Novice Amateur and Amateur Showmanship – with a 2-year-old! In our interview, she told us about her horse, what difference she sees between the European APHA and AQHA circuit and what annoys her at shows.
Before everyone was talking about the coronavirus, Bernadette Grubauer stayed in the United States and lived everyone’s dream: She interned for Tim and Shannon Gillespie – and she was able to show in the States as well. Bernadette shared her experience and gave some advice for everyone who dreams of being an intern for a US trainer.
Sofie Gawinski Lindholm is 22 years old and the president of the DKQHA, the AQHA affiliate in Denmark. She is – as far as we know – the youngest president of an AQHA affiliate. In our interview, she told us, how she got the position, what her goals are and how she was perceived because of her age.
Trying allround events with a Haflinger horse, a Gypsy Vanner … we have published some stories like this. But a pony? Shown by an 18-year-old? We have talked to Sina Bender, an accomplished EWU equestrian, who has won multiple medals at the German Open, about her German Riding Pony Nara, about the fear of being too tall, about the things she gets to hear when she shows up with her pony.
