She has been riding since she was four years old, now she is thirteen and already successful at the big shows in Europe. “It was my aunt Nina Leiner who inspired me as a rider”, Desiree Leiner says. “Desi has been riding since she was little and was always allowed to ride the good-minded horses – so she was used to riding different horses and adapting to them from an early age on“, Nina Leiner told us. Just recently, Desi took home the title of European Champion Novice Youth Pleasure at the Euro Paint with Like Smoking Gun, a Paint Horse mare owned by the Vorraber family.
“Diamond” is not the only successful horse you could see Desi with in the show pen during the past years. She also showed Only A Glamourgirl, Ima Absolute Sensation, The Tuff Chip and many others: “Olga Kadlecová gave Desi her horse The Tuff Chip – a bomb proof horse – for Desi’s first Pleasure class in Kreuth – and they won it! Her first class at a big show was at the Euro Paint with Ima Absolute Sensation, formerly owned by Lenka Zdrahalova,” Nina says. And success followed: “Desi only rode Roy once, the day before the class – Youth Western Pleasure – and they took home the bronze medal!” More shows came and Nina and her team were a big support for Desi: “Many of my clients gave Desi a horse to show – either in riding classes or Showmanship,” Nina told us.
Desi’s favorite horse, however, it not one of those decorated show horses, but Mill River Gold, a 19-year-old Reining bred horse, she shows in the Allround events: “I am currently leasing ,Odin’, but the Austrian Championship this year will be his last show. After that, he will be retired – well deserved as a 19-year-old,” Desi says. At this year’s ECQH, the pair could take home several top 10 and top 5 placings in different classes, among them Horsemanship: “This is my favourite event, because it is so elegant,” the 13-year-old states. But Desi and Odin have been successful in other events as well, as Nina told us: “Desi is currently practicing for the Austrian Championship with Odin – last year, they became Austrian Champion in Youth Ranch Riding.”
Odin’s retirement, however, does not mean that Desi’s show career is over: “My goal is to continue showing and become like my aunt Nina.” The odds are in Desi’s favour – Nina describes her as a total horse addict that spendings every minute at the barn: “Desi helps me during the weekends and in the holidays – grooming, saddling, warming the horses up, she does it all.” But it is not only the effort she shows that makes the 13-year-old special: “Desi is very patient with the horses, hardworking and such a good rider for a girl her age,” Nina stresses. A young rider with a bright future.
Sie reitet seit ihrem vierten Lebensjahr, mittlerweile ist sie dreizehn und schon erfolgreich auf den großen Shows in Europa unterwegs. „Meine Tante Nina Leiner hat mich zum Reiten inspiriert“, sagt Desiree Leiner. „Desi ist von klein an schon geritten und sie durfte sich auch schon immer auf die braven Pferde draufsetzen und ein bisschen reiten – so lernte sie natürlich sehr früh, verschiedene Pferde zu reiten und sich schnell drauf einzustellen“, erzählt Nina Leiner. Desi wurde erst kürzlich European Champion Novice Youth Pleasure auf der Euro Paint mit Like Smokin Gun, einer Paint Horse Stute im Besitz der Familie Vorraber.
„Diamond“ ist jedoch nicht das einzige bekannte Pferd, das Desi in den vergangenen Jahren vorgestellt hat. Sie war auch schon mit Only A Glamourgirl, Ima Absolute Sensation, The Tuff Chip und einigen weiteren Pferden im Showring zu sehen. „Olga Kadlecová hat Desi ihren Wallach The Tuff Chip – ein absolutes Verlasspferd – für ihre erste Pleasure in Kreuth geborgt, welche Desi dann auch gleich gewonnen hat. Ihre erste große Klasse hat sie auf der Euro Paint mit Ima Absolute Sensation, damals noch im Besitz von Lenka Zdrahalova, geshowt“, erzählt Nina. Und auch hier folgte gleich der erste Erfolg: „Sie saß nur einmal drauf zum trainieren und hatte am nächsten Tag gleich die Prüfung, Youth Pleasure, wo sie gleich Bronze holte.“ Der Stein kam ins Rollen und Nina und ihr Team waren eine große Unterstützung: „Viele meiner Kunden gaben Desi dann die Möglichkeit, ein Pferd zu showen, entweder in Reitklassen oder Showmanship.“
Desi and Only A Glamourgirl – European Champion Walk Trot Pleasure
Desis Favorit ist jedoch nicht eines dieser erfolgreichen und bekannten Showpferde, sondern Mill River Gold, genannt Odin, den sie momentan geleast hat: „Die Österreichische Meisterschaft Ende Oktober wird aber sein letztes Turnier sein. Nächstes Jahr geht er in seine wohlverdiente Rente – mit 19 Jahren“, erzählt Desi. Auf dem diesjährigen ECQH konnten die beiden einige sehr gute Platzierungen in den Youth und L1 Youth Klassen erreiten. Auch in Desis Lieblingsdisziplin, der Horsemanship: „Das ist meine Lieblingsklasse, weil sie so elegant aussieht.“ Aber auch in ganz anderen Disziplinen waren Desi und Odin sehr erfolgreich, wie Nina berichtet: „Zurzeit trainiert Desi noch mit ihrem 19-jährigen Mietpferd Mill River Gold für die Österreichische Meisterschaft, wo sie vergangenes Jahr Österreichischer Meister Ranch Riding Youth mit ihm wurde.“
Für Desi ist Odins Rente aber definitiv nicht das Aus ihrer Showkarriere: „Mein Ziel ist, weiterhin an Shows teilzunehmen und so wie meine Tante Nina Leiner zu werden.“ Die Chancen stehen gut: Nina beschreibt Desi als „absolutes Pferdemädchen“, das jede freie Minute bei den Pferden verbringt: „Desi hilft mir am Wochenende und auch in ihren Ferien mit putzen, satteln, aufwärmen,…“ Aber nicht nur das viele Engagement macht die Dreizehnjährige aus – auch reiterlich ist sie für ihr Alter sehr gut, wie Nina betont: „Desi arbeitet außerdem sehr geduldig mit den Pferden und ist sehr fleißig.“ Eine junge Reiterin, von der man sicher noch hören wird.
