With all the shows being cancelled, many equestrians have time to practice which is why we have published another part of our series “How Too…”. This article deals with one of the most important elements of a Showmanship class: the back-up. A perfect back-up can be a deal-breaker in a strong Showmanship class. We have asked three top-notch exhibitors and trainers for their advice.
As promised, we created a packing list for the shows. We made two versions: one for Amateur riders who travel to a show by themselves and one for entire show teams. We do know that some things might be missing – because each team is different and every rider needs different things at a show. After all, we and our horses are individuals. We do hope, however, to have covered all the important basics and we have left some margins, spaces and check boxes empty so you can individualize the packing list and add whatever you need.
We work. We sweat. We cry. We, fail, one time, another time and still try. We criticise, yet never doubt ourselves, we push forward. We get up early, we ignore our sore legs, we put on a neat shirt and show. We fight against all odds. And we win. We are European Champions, Futurity Champions, National Champions and sometimes the queens and kings of hearts. We are equestrians. We know how to defeat a crisis, even Corona. We know how to push through. We will be back. ?

AQHA and APHA are by far the most popular breeding associations in Europe. And while the NSBA Futurity and the NSBA European Championship are held in Germany, there are hardly any other NSBA-approved classes offered in the country with the highest population of Quarter Horses outside North America. Germany’s northern neighbours, however, seem to love the NSBA. We have asked two competitors from Denmark on their opinion why that is the case: AQHA competitor Natasha Møller and APHA competitor Dóra Gözce.
